[How-To] Automounting Home Directories with NIS and NFS

This writeup was done on Debian Server and Ubuntu Desktop. Our goal is to automounting home directories using NIS, NFS and autofs.


I won’t explain each step,just check out the previous posts and make necessary changes.

1. Install and Configure NIS
2. Install and Configure NFS

$ sudo vim /etc/exports
/home    172.16.29.0/255.255.255.0(rw,sync,no_root_squash)

3. Configure autofs in clients

$ sudo apt-get install autofs
$ sudo vim /etc/auto.master
/home    /etc/auto.home --timeout=600

$ sudo vim auto.home
*    server.mydomain.com:/home/&

Et voilĂ  !
