[How-To] Install Sublime Text 2 on Fedora

In this post we’ll see how can we install Sublime Text 2 on Fedora, because there’s no installer for Linux versions of Sublime Text.

Step 1:

Download the tar file (from here) that suits you, extract and move it to /opt/:

# tar -xf Sublime\ Text\ 2.0.1\ x64.tar.bz2 -C /opt/
# mv /opt/Sublime\ Text\ 2/ /opt/Sublime_Text

Step 2:

Create a symbolic link to allow you to call Sublime Text from the Terminal

# ln -s /opt/Sublime_Text/sublime_text /usr/bin/sublime_text

Step 3:

Create a launcher (.desktop file)

# cat /usr/share/applications/sublime_text.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Sublime Text 2
GenericName=Sublime Text 2  # For KDE 4
Comment=Sublime Text 2
Exec=sublime_text
Terminal=false
Icon=/opt/Sublime_Text/Icon/128x128/sublime_text.png
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Categories=Development;IDE;Utility;TextEditor;

Step 4:

Make Sublime Text 2 as the default application to open all text files, by modifying defaults.list and replacing gedit.desktop with sublime_text.desktop

# sublime_text /usr/share/applications/defaults.list

Enjoy !
